I'm working on the Zappa and the Rossini

But while I'm doing that (and what's more probable is that better brains than mine will leap in with those), consider these four:

Michael Gordon
Charles Wakefield Cadman
Johann Strauss II
Antonin Dvorak

I think that this could be quite tricky....

Is there a version of the William Tell story where he shoots an orange off the head of his son rather than an apple?
I'm a little fixated on Comte Ory: there isn't an orange called that is it?

It's orange init?
Prokofiev's Love for three oranges
Carlos's score for A Clockwork orange
German's Nell Gwyn
Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin
Torke's Ecstatic Orange

I'm working on the Zappa and the Rossini

The Rossini is surely The Barber of Seville (Seville oranges!!)

Was Puccini on the subs bench? A navel encounter that goes horribly wrong?

Michael Gordon
Charles Wakefield Cadman
Johann Strauss II
Antonin Dvorak

I think that this could be quite tricky....

It's not a common word that I'm looking for here. The link is thematic...
More clues and some extra composers later.

It is not. The Dvorak is an opera.

 Huh

It is! But the Cadman is wrong.
I'll reveal one (the best) of my additional composers: Billy Mayerl.

It is the Joker!
We have Batman (Strauss), the Joker (Mayerl), and Gotham (Gordon, no not the Commissioner).
This should indicate the sort of thing you're looking for (and I should probably say that Gotham is the odd-one out).

PS The Cadman is an opera too.

Hurrah!

About as far as I can with Batman I think hh.  Unless there was a (Water) Goblin (Dvorak) involved?  Or a Noon Witch?
