Balvenie double wood.  Smiley

Don't worry martle, you won't catch horrible nasty EUROPE banning cider. As Ian just mentioned, the northern Frenchpersons have their own quite different but very fine variety. Even if they get the last two letters in the wrong order.

Well, re Europe: does everyone agree that a carrot is a fruit, then?

`I'm a little tired of the 'pressed' or concentrated types of apple juice`.

Apart from with yer boiled ham, eh Mart? Grin  Maybe a Calvados would have made you feel happier? Or a pound of Coxes?

Funnily enough,Ian, I was planning to visit friends near Frome soon. I know about that, just regret the creeping disappearance of the stuff further east. You used to be able to get superb scrumpy in Wiltshire, for instance (which isn't much futher east than Somerset), but no longer. as far as I'm aware.

Ollie and Ian - haven't ventured south for the stuff. Nice tip! Thanks. Calvados, anyone?

(For our US friends, in case you don't know: cider over here is usually alcoholic, sometimes extremely so. Unlike your very delicious non-alcoholic versions, which are more like a rough apple juice, and which I wish we could get over here. I'm a little tired of the 'pressed' or concentrated types of apple juice that typically adorn our supermarket shelves.)  Sad Drink Grump over.

(We have it here, too.  It's hard to find a good one, but my local Irish pub has has one that's actually quite nice.  Don't recall the name offhand, but I know it's not domestic.)

Just about to open up a bottle of Brother Thelonious, by North Coast Brewing, a phenomenal craft brewer from northern California.  This has quickly become one of my favorite beers!

I seem to be hooked on the Abbey Style ales at the moment ....

Jeez, 9.3 ABV! That's strong. Looks very classy though. What do you think of Czech Budvar, Aaron? I think it's sometimes called Czechvar in the US. Reckoned by many to be the best ale of its type in the world. I'm no expert, but it's certainly extremely good - wonderful flavour, not too gassy.

I don't drink alcohol either.  Not because I don't agree with it but it doesn't agree with me I'm afraid.  The most I can managed without coming down with the migraine from hell, is one glass of champagne at a wedding or other celebration - with food.  It's a real shame because all the alcoholic drinks I tried in my youth (once) I really liked.

I don't smoke either....

Boring as hell actually.  Sad

(No need for you all to rise up in a body and concur thanks!)

tonyb and Mills - nothing to stop you talking about non-alcoholic drinks! I think Mary was talking about smoothies a while back...

Yum! I'd like one now. In fact...

This morning it's my cuppa and my strawberry-flavoured slim-fast milk shake.

Same for lunch.

Pig out for my one meal a day, but only sipping mineral water with that.  After that it's just tea, tea, tea.  Roll Eyes

I drink pints of tea, but I'm not very good at coffee. I've never really found a way of making it that doesn't leave grounds in the cup, or stew it, or something. There's always instant, though it tastes quite different, and there are only a few people I dare offer it to..

Mineral water?  Only when I can't get decent water out of the tap, as in London for instance, where tap water is disgusting.

I think the smoothie in my fridge at the moment is raspberry and cranberry. Sometimes I buy the exotic ones (what the heck is acai?) that claim to be superfoods, in the hope they will make me super. Doesn't work though Sad.
