The only thing that makes me panicky is milling crowds.  Crowds standing still are pretty OK (else I wouldn't last long in the Arena at the Proms!) but I cannot abide being hemmed in by a throng of moving people.  I've never been to any of the big events in London, I've never been to a rock concert, and I can't stand nightclubs.  Funnily enough I'm ok on a packed Underground train (where people are generally standing still) but not on a packed Underground station platform (where they're moving about).

I did go to the Golden Jubilee procession but had to stand right at the back of the crowd, at the wrong end of a slope - all I could see was the roof of the carriage...  Embarrassed

Can't stand horror movies either...

Eek!

The view from the top's not bad though (a couple of rather good Manhattans helped too...)

I found this scary enough. It's Saxtead Green windmill in Suffolk, and it has a LONG, STEEP ladder up to the door. I can't find a photo that makes it look as terrifying as I found it. I did go up it - eventually.

ooooh ladders...I think they are the main sources of adrenaline rushes for me.  I guess I don't mind that much if they're properly secured though (but maybe will take a bit of effort to start going *down* them again).

(something someone put together at some recent Burning Man, apparently; I don't think anyone was expected to use it though).

Ha!  I can see it from my bedroom window.  In fact everybody can round here because this is such a flat area.  (There are only three "hills" where I live and they're all railway bridges).  The Tower is very pretty at night, all lit up with a laser light show whizzing wound and wound and wound the sky.  Woohoo!  The Pepsi Max is also very visible and lit up to stop the 'planes flying into it.  EEEeeee tha's not lived till tha's been oop 'ere.   Tongue

Oops; it looked like a really small, relatively inoffensive picture on the page I saw it on.  So, I hope that all charges of intent will be dropped on this testimony.

  #  60.        Ruth, milling crowds.      I always experience a distinct nausea when I hear the last movement of Beethoven's Sym 7 as the sheer impetus reminds me of the moving throng in the narrow tunnel at Finsbury Park underground during the rush hour.  In particular, a Solti/LPO concert at the RFH left me feeling quite dizzy.  In due course, I quit Finsbury Park but even today the Carlos Kleiber/VPO recording still inclines me to fasten my seat belt as the association became a phobia.

Sorry Mort, but when Jonathan mentioned it, I had to look it up and it was so hideous I thought sharing it would help. Me, that is. It didn't really...  Cry
