Freezing again - despite the heater being on!  The sun is trying to shine though so it may warm up later on.

Morning from a sunny but freezing cold Leeds city centre.  I don't know what's going on here but there were a lot of sirens earlier.

Other half is being operated on this morning.  I'm trying to recover from the 5.15 get-up time. I don't do early...

I hope it all goes well, Ruby.

Cold and sunny here, no central heating as the boiler has gone wrong again, but the room I am in is very sunny, so not too bad.

Very best wishes to you and your other half Ruby and good vibes!  Kiss

I left my heating on all night at a steady temperature and the house is now quite warm so I've turned it off for a while.  It's a nice sunny day and the wind has dropped.  Quite cold but bright.  Looks like a nice day really.  The gardeners are here sweeping up the sand and dead leaves so we'll be looking smart again shortly.    Cheesy

Thanks all, it's only a fairly minor thing so I'm not really worried - they've just got to take the wires out earlier than expected.  And hey - at least he gets a nap!  Cheesy

Mary - poor you.  It's really not the weather for broken heating is it?  Hope you get it sorted soon.  Sad

I've got a bit of A Bach Christmas (oh no, the "C" word again Shocked) spinning on the laptop while I eat a banana and have a cuppa. Going out to a lunchtime concert at Birm Uni soon.

Good morning. I always wait until the Sunday to alter my clocks anyway. The radio soon tells you, when all the programmes are at the wrong times.

Good morning.  I've had a fantastic night's sleep!  Went early, slept late - till 8 a.m., which was really 9 a.m.  I feel 10 years younger!  Shocked

I'd done all the clocks in the kitchen yesterday and my bedside clock radio.  Now I'll have to do all the others and everybody's watches ...and the car.  The only ones that are done automatically are the dvd player and the computer.

I bet a few haven't remembered when we go to football practice.

Good morning.
Last night was (for me) an early night too, so slept until 07:30 (GMT not BST). While I don't exactly feel wonderfully rested, it's been rather nice to get something approaching a decent night's sleep!
Have only changed the clocks in my bedroom for now. The rest can wait.
The inevitability of having the heating on a timer again is creeping up.

Washing machine still not fixed, socks running out. Not yet reached crisis levels.
Apparently someone's coming round to have a look at it over the 'next two days', three days ago. I'm now assuming that's 'two working days' but it would have been nice for them to have said that at the time!

Have had a letter from my landlord informing me that since I've lived in this flat for a year, they are putting the rent up. I've wanted to move for some time, so this is going to give me the shove that I need. Just have to carve out some time over the next few days to make some appointments to look at new flats.

Put the rent up?  Shocked That's more than a shade silly during the current economic climate.   He should be glad he's got good-paying tenants.

There are a lot of greedy landlords in this area, with the result that more and more shops are closing down because they can't afford the rents.  We have, at the last count, nine charity shops in what is a very small town, because they're exempt from the worst excesses.  I never could understand the mentality behind this ridiculous greed.  One shop has been boarded up for nearly 20 years.  That's no way to conduct business. Madness!

I only noticed the other day that we've had a Repossession just round the corner from me.  Beautiful house on the Inner Prom.  They were asking nearly £1,000,000 at one time, then it went down to £800,000, then down to £700,000.  It is now obviously unoccupied as the family have gone and the board says "Serious Offers Invited".   Empty as it now is and facing several tons of sand on the opposite pavement, I doubt very much whether it will sell quickly.  Surely they would have been better to let it to the family for a reasonable rent until it sold?  Building Societies don't consider people, just the cash.

Quote from: My agent, who can't even spell my name correctly
We note that it is approaching twelve months since the commencement of your tenancy/your last rental review. In accordance with our standard practice and annual rent review procedure we write to inform that the monthly rental for the property will increase to... etc.

I suspect that I'll end up paying more rent for a new place, even taking this rise into account, but I have to stop complaining and move before too long.

[sigh]
Anyway.
Morning.
Time to be off to my place of work.
Have completely booked out the day with tutorials, but there has been a steady trickle of 'sorry, can't make it' emails coming through over the last 24 hours.
We'll see how many turn up.

I wish my next door neighbour had taken that advice. The girl who recently moved out of his place because of a rent increase was lovely. She's now been replaced by a young family who've deposited a shopping trolley in the back garden and started chucking bin bags over the fence at the bottom of the garden.  Classy.
