Thanks, A. The joy of term ending yesterday (hurrah) is that rather than marching into school to crack on, I can take time to explore parts of the Ridge I don't usually walk through. Having woken at the same time as normal and seeing there had been a heavy frost, I thought I'd head outside with the new camera. Before the sun rose, the trees that huddle together at the top of St Catherine's Hill looked quite ghostly. Just seen your photo, A. Lovely stuff - just the morning for a coastal walk.

IGI and Ron - fab! I know *exactly* where you were taking those shots, IGI, and it's making me a tad homesick - even though I only live 75 miles away. Hampshire boy, through and through, I is. Oh well, I'll be there in a few days for Chrimbo (Hampshire for 'Christmas').

Incidentally, since Ron was born on the Isle of Wight before its relocation to Dorset, he could be said to be a Hampshire boy too....

Me too, on a technicality, Bournemouth still being within the Hampshire borders (just) when I was born!

Misty around Carrot Hill yesterday, too: (You may be able to see that the field in the foreground has been recently ploughed, but the soil is very dark, and fairly wet, so it doesn't have much definition in the half-light.)

That's an atmospheric sky there, Ron. At the risk of adding to martle's homesickness, here are some photos I took from a walk through the Water Meadows this morning, heading for a fruitless rush for presents around town which ultimately led to a tedious journey into Southampton to do battle with the crowds there... And here's one of the characters I met along the way ( shame I cut the very top of his head off, but I like the sparkling river)

Southampton is uninspiring, isn't it? A genuine Saxon town, with nothing to show. As a 1950s post Blitz, it is quite as dreary as Plymouth and Exeter, with a magnificent position, which it does not show to any advantage.
The photos are lovely, IGI, cold to look at, but not as cold as Ron's.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.
