Perhaps it's a Civil Service thing of just logging on for multiples of precisely ten minutes, GG.

That could have something to do with it, Ron. I've also noticed it takes precisely five minutes to make a cup of tea and then check with a set square that the in-tray, pending-tray and out-tray are all exactly parallel with the edges of the desk. You may be on to something there.

Now what does catch my eye is, er, are, the moments when the hours are at zero. They're not then displayed and the disturbance in the pattern is just the kind of thing that my subconscious likes to alert my conscious about.

Ah, perhaps that is what I was thinking of.  Cheesy

No. I've just deliberately looked at my 'Total time logged in' on three random occasions and none of them were 0 or anywhere near. Exactly what I would have expected on my hypothesis. The evidence is manifestly building up in my favour.

Total time logged in: 50 days, 13 hours and 0 minutes.

Aha!

Well for me then it's certainly that it catches my eye when the hours aren't there. Seeing as the minutes seem to be still there even when they're at zero.

Then by strange contrast maybe it's the minutes still being there when, if they followed the lead set by the hours, they shouldn't be, that makes my subconscious tug at the trouser-folds of consciousness to alert it to something being up. Which has the greater survival value, spotting things that aren't there that should be, or spotting things that shouldn't be there but are, perhaps only time and future generations will tell. I have a feeling though that the Sudden subconscious may have the evolutionary edge here.

This is the kind of sentence that makes me very glad indeed that alcoholic beverages were invented.  Tongue

You're one of the lucky ones. My sub- and conscious haven't spoken in years.
