We wonder whether Puzzle 253 might perhaps be from Handel's Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6 no. 6?

It sounds awfully like Vivaldi to me....but there's an awful lot of Vivaldi to trawl through to locate it!!!

I can't place the work - as demonstrated by my lamentable answer - but wonder whether the performers are the VCM and Harnoncourt?

I like that analogy, Mr Sudden!

Here, then, is Puzzle 254: SendSpace or Rapidshare I wonder how the batsman will deal with this delivery?
...he will watch bemused as it hurtles some distance over his head, the keeper only just managing to save four byes if not indeed six.   Cheesy

255 is Debussy's La Mer

I fear IGI may be wrong, so for 255 I'll go for Debussy: L'Apres-midi d'un faune.

Of course!!! Oh, the shame!  Sad

I can see that 2 second snatches of Classic FM favourites are the way to sort....

... Well, I'm not sure what.  But it was a dropped catch at 1st slip, anyway.  Wink

Announcement: Self-Scoring

Now that this competition has been running for a couple of months, and Members have become familiar with it, we would like to introduce a system of self-scoring, which it is hoped will replace the "running log" of messages.

At the end of every message that earns points in the competition thread, we invite Members now to add the line "This message earns xxx points, bringing my total points to yyy" - or something of that kind.

Give it a try! We are sure that if any Member makes a gross error he or she will at once be corrected by other Members. . . .

Mr Opilec, stick neck out stab at your snatch 238 time. Birtwistle, Ookooing Bird.

I suppose you would know that, being related by marriage to a character in one of Mr Birtwistle's theatre pieces.

Mr Barrett, we confess our confusion at that! We are, last time we looked, not matrimonially encumbered; nor, we confess, can we find reference to green entities (let alone characters) in the theatrical works (if one may so describe them) of Mr Birtwistle of Accrington. Unless, we suppose, you intend some obscure reference to Down By the Greenwood Side, a slight work by a slight composer (is not he unless girth or facial hair is taken into consideration).

There's definitely a family resemblance.

Nuts. I love that piece. I would have recognised it if I had listened instead of attempting to find nice things to say about this orchestration assignment...

(Clue message = 75 points)

May we respectfully request the Member to calculate and state his new total points? Something along these lines would suffice:

3875 + (Clue message = 75 points) = 3950

The idea of self-scoring is turning out rather well on the whole is not it?

There's definitely a family resemblance.

Indeed. Although we suspect that Mr Barrett was in fact thinking of a character from Down by the Greenwood Side: Mrs Green.
