Number 118: Messiaen, one of the 8 preludes of 1929 - we don't know any Scottish connection though!

But wait! Come to think of it, there are his Scottish Variations of 1928, but they were written for organ; perhaps he arranged them for piano - so that is our second guess.

O.K., one other hint regarding Puzzle 127. The recording engineer involved was Frank Bruno. No, seriously, it was Frank Bruno. It was recorded in April 1964. There is now no excuse whatever for not getting this one,

Riegger Symphony no. 4?

Er, Ollie, how about putting it in the right thread?

Oh come now Ollie. You don't expect to get away with a question like that on this thread, surely?

It would appear that A Hinton has just lost himself 75 points for being far too clever, while failing to post in the correct thread. The concerto was written in 1937, of course.

Better to post here when one means to post there than there when one means to post here, no?

Er, or is there a new points penalty for that too, whose announcement I missed?  Roll Eyes

No, I think you have it right, OS. It's just that I don't think it quite right to respond to attempts at a complete answer here. Wink Alistair will not be alone in losing points thus. I have been so penalised, and to give him his due, SCGrew has penalised himself too. (oe-er).

141 could have been made a little more tricky by using the version for flute, by Rampal. Wink

Puzzle 141:  I much prefer THIS recording than the one I posted in the test thread.  Sadly it is a little slower for the section I wished to submit, and comes in at over 1 min.  But you can hear the harp thuds much better on this.....

And quite right too, Bryn. Answers should certainly be over there. I would certainly have removed my inadvertent and erroneous answer post here but that would have been a flagrant abuse of moderatory privilege. My own rebuke of myself in that post was actually an edit but made quickly enough that it doesn't appear as one. Oops.

Did I see that Member Grew had removed all his points and declared himself a Non-Competitive Member or some such title? I vaguely remember seeing such a thing during one of my brief visits last week but can't find it now.

...I can't hear Rapidshare clips on this computer, alas - the Khachaturian concerto (or Khachatryan if you prefer) is another I'll have to mark down as one that got away.  Sad

I actually managed to hear three sendspace clips the other day, so I will try downloading next clip that way.

I have to agree. Such rhythmical precision, too. Who is playing on your alternative clip?

Ollie, it is all the fault of the poster! 24ksps 16 bit WAV files. Winamp will not play them, so I have to open them in Sound Forge. It is not RapidShare's fault.
