It's not Paganini's Violin Concerto No.2, either.
Is it no.4?

5 or 6?

(I believe that's all.)

No, Richard, it's not Paganini's No.3....neither is it No.4. It's not No.5, nor No.6. I think, therefore, you can be assured that it's not a Niccolò Paganini Violin Concerto!  Wink

Mr. Inquisitor has it again! Puzzle 14 is Stravinsky's Le Baiser de la Fée (The Fairy's Kiss)

Commiserations to Mr. Thompson and Mr. Martle for their unsuccessful guesses.

I first heard this on a car journey (R3 of course) as a teenager and was enchanted - I knew it was Stravinsky but unfortunately I did not catch the name of the piece at the time, and spent several years intermittently trying to track it down, to the point where I thought I had imagined that distinctive trombone melody! Then quite by chance, a friend was clearing out his CD collection and gave me a copy of this piece. It sat on the shelf for a further year or so: imagine my delight and when I finally gave it a listen!

Much of the material is based on songs and piano pieces by Chaickowwski, which perhaps accounts for the rather uncharacteristically luxurious string harmonies heard in the snatch.

No,  Alan  ...er Richard, it's not Paganini at all, but there are many other concertos to select from!

Here is Puzzle 29.  I would be most grateful if people could tell me if I have done this, my first upload, correctly.

You have indeed, Tommo. Congratulations! And thank you for doing it on Rapid Share which my pc seems to find easier to digest than ... whatever the other one is.

But I don't know what it is.  Cheesy

Nah, I just remembered his concertos were all (I think) accompanied by strings only.

Wieniawski?  Number one (although it's in F-sharp minor ...) ?

Spohr? (hmm, probably not)

Viotti?

Bériot?

Not Tapiola, George - if you listen carefully there's a voice in Puzzle 27, and Tapiola has none!
