Puzzle 258 is Glinka's The Lark in the Balakirev arrangement I believe, IGI.

Right nationality, right bird, but wrong composer and composition, sadly, Mr Garnett.

D'oh, that'll teach me to rely on the clues without going back to listen to the snatch again.  Cheesy

I think on further reflection it might well be Glinka's The Lark transcribed by Balakirev. And very nice it is too.

Correct, Mr Daniel. Collect 180 points! Mr Garnett was just pipped at the post on this occasion, I'm afraid. Fear not, there are countless clues out there for 243!!

As the snatch was set on 03 March 2008, 23:12:48, we calculate a bonus of 295 points (3 days, 1 hour and 45 mins)

18254 + 295 = 18549 points... all these additions - good job I'm the Maths Manager at school!

Not unless there's a ballet of Amahl and the Night Visitors and someone made a suite from it. Sad

Oh there is and they did!  Shocked

Snatch 243 Menotti: The Concert Suite from the Ballet of Amahl and the Night Visitors

No, Mr Garnett, not Amahl, which we always thought was an opera rather than a ballet!

My thanks to Mr. Grande and my apologies to Mr. Garnett. In the circumstances it seems a bit rude to follow the rules and so publically brandish my new total, I hope George will forgive me.

275 is the Procession of the Sardar from Caucasian Sketches by Ippolitov-Ivanov, we do believe!

If we're right (after 11 minutes), that's 5799 + 180 + 180 - 11 = 6148 for us.

Yipeee! That music does indeed bring a smile to our faces. It's Friday, the sun is shining and we've just solved one of Mr Inquisitor's puzzles. Does life get any better?

243. I think it's that IGI favourite:

We can see your reasoning for that one, Mr Garnett, but we don't think that the Trittico Botticelliano is derived from a ballet. We urge him to continue his endeavours.   Wink
