Mr Thompson's Puzzle 143 (especially from 0:29) sounds very much like Tchaikovsky's Aveu Passioné in E minor, which I only know as a solo piano piece, but here, presumably, in an arrangement for piano trio.

Aha. That would make it the Wilby reconstruction of the Mozart piano and violin concerto in D major K App56/K315f...
It not only would, it does. Why bother(?), thought I. After all, Mozart fond better things to do with his time. Well Googled, Ollie.

And would 166 be Roger Norrington conducting Daniel Hope?
I refer the unobservant Termite Lover to the rather more complete solution posted more than a quarter of a day before hers, though whether Roger Norrington conducted Daniel Hope, or whether he directed his attention to making sure the orchestra melded well with Daniel Hope's contribution to the proceedings is open to question, I think. I do hope the adjudicator will be lenient with you over your tardy partial attempt, but would well understand why he might not.

Not so much anent our googling of Member Bryn's extensive hint as because we managed to identify the Mozart D major sonata in alien weeds. Indeed there was much fruitless googling along the lines of arrangement mozart violin sonata concerto but Member Bryn's hint was in the end required.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner! It is indeed Aveu Passioné, although I know it better as 'Ardent Declaration'. It is in fact in an arrangement for Piano and Viola (I believe by Borissovsky?) And you didn't even need my clue: " No one has made a passionate statement about 143 yet!" Well done, Mr Inquisitor Mr. 1780

Sorry, no - it's not Reger at all.

I'll have a nibble at 153, Mr Grew. I think it is from Widor's Symphony gothique.

I'll have a nibble at 153, Mr Grew. I think it is from Widor's Symphony gothique. Excellent Mr. Watson! It is the central movement of his Ninth Organ Symphony, opus 70, in C minor. Whether or not it is an essential part of the repertoire we leave to others to judge.

No, Mr 1780, it isn't Copland at all. Here, in the meantime, is Puzzle 168: SendSpace or Rapidshare

And here's Puzzle No.169, which isn't perhaps as familiar as it should be, but I should be delighted to be proved wrong: SendSpace or Rapidshare
