I have the sense of humour of a schoolboy still.
I am amused by the fact that the most popular new thread on the R3 message boards is 'Who would you...'

Which thread is that, hh?

I'm looking forward to tomorrow as it's pay day, the last Friday of the month. Council tax bill has arrived, though.

I know that dogs are popular on these boards but as I got out of my car this afternoon, a woman at the end held up a plastic bag and asked if she could put it in my bin. It was dog mess so I politely declined and she was all right about it. (How else could she be but at least she was making an effort, I suppose. Still a bit of a cheek asking and my bin had only just been emptied this morning, making it two weeks until the next collection.)

They are going to weigh bins now. I think it is time to put a lock on ones bin. Or else you might have to drug it after your car wherever you go to through you own rubbish in it.

Morning all. Oh-oh, I've just found my way into the Top 10 Posters. Time to ease off for a while perhaps. Milly, do those engineer jokes refer to students or to grown-up engineers? I remember, way back in the depths of the last century, when I was a student in the biological sciences department at UCL, we were next door to the engineering department where we had the opportunity to observe a large breeding population (or rather non-breeding) of engineering students over a period of years, and I have to say that all of those witticisms ring absolutely true. But I assumed that they all settled down eventually to become normal members of society just like all of us here.

I assumed - once an engineer, always an engineer.

A bit like actuaries.

(Who are not on the same planet as the rest of us - trust me I know!  I have had many dealings with them.  Roll Eyes)

Don't worry Richard. You are still way, way behind R_T's 'school bully'. Poor t-p thought R_T was having a go at her, over on the FoR3 boards, it seems.

t-p, it's that Ian Pace who goes around beating up poor unsuspecting expats. Apparently we all fawn after Ian (he wishes Wink).

It's even worse for me though, I have just found myself agreeing with Norman Lebrecht! http://www.scena.org/columns/lebrecht/070124-NL-tchaikovsky.html . What is the world coming to?

I have received my comeuppance. Amazon UK has emailed me to alert me to the forthcoming release to an unsuspecting public of:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0713999578/ref=pe_pe_3421_5386531_pe_snp_578

Please, please resist any temptation to waste your money on such worthless garbage.

Bryn, obviously some friendly robot at Amazon thought you'd be interested in purchasing said egregious tome. Is that perhaps because you have the collected writings of Mr Lebrecht on your shelves?

I confess, I got a beaten up copy of his hopelessly inadequate tome on 20th Century music from Amazon Marketplace (the book was cheaper (in all senses) than the p&P) a couple of years ago.

My dear friends, I would be failing in my duty of care if I failed to alert you to the following.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=London,+UK&daddr=New+York,+NY&sll=48.166085,-36.5625&sspn=49.410861,63.369141&layer=&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=3

Pay special attention to step 37.

Do also note: "You may find that construction projects, traffic, or other events may cause road conditions to differ from the map results".

And a big thank you to Mark Knoop, occasional lurker here. You've just had me snorking out loud in an internet café where everyone thinks, not without reason, that I've lost the plot. Wink
