And look at the enormous shadow that it casts! Or is that a diegetic element?

Does anyone know if a truly squirrel-proof bird feeder exists? Squirrels have recently taken up residence and the little buglers have completely trashed the feeder. First of all they gnawed through the handle so that the whole thing fell on the ground. I retaliated by tying it back up with thick string. Feeder back on the ground. Then I actually tied it to the tree trunk. Same result. They've smashed it to smithereens I don't begrudge them the nuts, but the birds aren't getting a look in These squirrels are obviously Carling drinkers!

I had a metal hook on a long straight metal rod ( bought from a garden centre or bird reserve I can't remember which) It has to be very long...over 3 feet from preference , and hung on a high branch with no hanging branches at the side. They then find it hard to get at from the ground and from above. I used to have one for the squirrels too, but I am a big softy A

Ah, that could be a problem. The Elder and Sycamore next door are seriously overshadowing my garden. I'm up to my eyes in branches No wonder the Nutkin family have moved in

A flock of female starlings (?) descended on the pond stream and fought over the bathwater. Not a great photo as the birds are the same colour as the rocks

This years juvenile starlings I'd say, John, accompanied by one adult. I wouldn't like to hazard what sex any of them are. I'll leave that to someone else .

Thanks George, they looked quite big but of course they would be young ones.

Cripes George! I know when I'm beaten. I'll just leave the bag of nuts underneath the tree

I have seen this type in a supermarket recently (possibly Waitrose) for £19.95): I doubt even young squirrels would get through the gaps in those.

Notice the chain though Mort, this is useful to stop them attacking from above, they are very clever!!!!

Much better to remember Brooke Bond PG Tips from the Wild Birds of Britain picture cards than from chimpanzees.
