I am still confused Baz A Gastronomic Prostitute? You don't mean SOMEONE PAYS HER to drape herself with food? And then there is the phrase 'Voyeuristic' So, SHE GETS PAID TO LOOK AT WAITROSE'S FISH COUNTER and then relays the details of the Pollock with a Karl Davies soundtrack? Confused of Llandrindod Wells

Isn't this something to do with 'personal shoppers'? Picture from a male perspective the feminine conductivity with food or balm as compared with say, Lopez the waiter from the old Savoy having just gone through the bins out back for sustainance for his cat. Great guy, but intractably seedy situation. About now if it was a 'lodge' do (the guys Mozart had a rough time with)they'd just be serving tea and cakes, I kid you not, after umpteen courses and a bit of solemn hoofing.

I am still confused Baz ... I'm sorry Anty - we all feel that at some point in our lives. You don't mean SOMEONE PAYS HER ... Now you have gone and brought sexism into prostitution! And then there is the phrase 'Voyeuristic' ... Yes, I never understood myself why Mort introduced that word. Confused of Llandrindod Wells Are there many of you?

Thank you for sharing that with us Baz. It's all we needed to know Now, that wasn't so difficult was it? (Scuttles off stage-left in a Voyeuristic Fashion determined to investigate Chantilly potatoes with a Parmesan crust whilst avoiding the Gastronomic delights offering by Les Poules de Luxe of Montmartre!)

Difficult to follow that thought, but a word in praise of the RPO tonight who are playing up a storm. I saw several of them laid out on the steps as I came in, the guys not in Sea Pics, who looked afternoon-rehearsal knackered but it didnt show on the stand needless to say. String playing in the Tippett and choral precision especially brill. Sadly I was late due bus hold-up- some freckled wannabee gangster of about 13 getting fleeced by a posse outside the Lanesborough, of all places. Not quite 'a child of our time', but somehow on that continuum. Sadly missed BBM but no doubt we'll hook up soon.

I was in the Wellington, a famous real ale pub in Brum city centre, last night and there was a wonderful collection of people at the bar - I'm sure a modern James Joyce would have had a great time writing details in his notebook. My favourite was a chap wearing headphones - which didn't seem to stop him conversing with people - who declared that he was listening to Bach gamba sonatas.

Bach might have enjoyed it too, Andy! Just back from a Janáček conference in Paris, which was a very convivial gathering. Also managed to pick up a few nice CDs: Vänskä's Sibelius symphonies for €20, Brautigam's recording of Beethoven Op. 31 sonatas and some Notre-Dame polyphony sung by the Ensemble Gilles Binchois. And yesterday morning I was here:

I didn't know the Sainte Chapelle was noted for its bier. Live and learn.

Thanks, martle! Don B, I had to leave my pipe and beer outside ... And also (how could I forget?) went to a nice little concert by Pierre-Laurent Aimard and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe: Haydn: Symphony No. 22 Schoenberg: Three Pieces for chamber orchestra and the Piano Pieces Op. 19 Webern: Six Bagatelles Op. 9 and the Five Pieces Op. 10 for small orchestra Ligeti: RamificationsMozart: Piano Concerto in A major, K. 488 Not a bad little programme ... And (am ashamed to admit) the first time I've been to the Cité de la Musique.
