I wasn't there but I was in plenty of other places in Paree last week. Including at the concert from which Member Grew posted a clip in the Repertoire Quiz.

What is it about Paris I wonder?

I lived there for two years and can assure you that it's also about very many other things some of which would be sorely off-topic on this thread...

...but oh my goodness gracious me, when Paris is on song I wonder if there's anywhere on earth to beat it. Certainly nowhere I know.

(There's certainly nowhere that does heartbreak quite like Paris. I don't wish that experience on anyone here though.)

After 0430 reveille yesterday and braving the usual menagerie on the night buses, I am notwithstanding delighted having spent the evening with those fine folk with learning difficulties whom I assisted some years back. They had had a serious crisis with their most recent worker assualted by thugs attempting to deal drugs on site, but have come through this resiliently and touchingly said they missed me. Three couples have developed, there have been some poignant but also very optimistic events-they're marvellous and it was great fun to catch up. 8am alarm may not be so bad tommorrow either.

Thanks Jan  Kiss and bbm. Paris was lovely and it was great to see the places I had only heard of before... the Mona Lisa looks a darn sight better for real than on cake tins and playing cards!!

Surprisingly small, though! At least I thought so when I first saw it/her.

I never actually saw her as I was pickpocketed before I got that far, and had to be busy with the French cops - I was gutted, as I hadn't much money, it completely ruined my weekend !!

Still love Paris though....must get there again soon.... sigh!

Pleased to read this marbleflugel.  Smiley

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Yes I agree. I was however very surprised that photos were allowed throughout the Louvre including the Mona Lisa. I expected to be allowed only to buy reproductions.. thus defeating the whole 'I've seen the real Mona Lisa thing!!' It was a relaxing experience !
