Dear Sister, I fear you may be addressing your response to the wrong poster. I have never laid hands on a tuba in my sheltered and innocent life.

May the Blessed Fish Fingers guide you wisely on your Path in Life.

I find lemons most helpful in this respect.

Dear Sister of The Poor Lemons without Walls, I fear a tuba player has snatched upon my bad spelling and grammar.

Oh what is to be done?  I must repent and perform 3 Hail Marys and a Novena in Burgess Hill in the Convent of The Sussex Sisters

Oh the disgrace, the humiliation.  (Only kidding, the more humiliation as a Catholic the better!)  Cheesy

I've got a cousin in Burgess Hill and other relatives in Hove but i've never been to Burgess Hill!!

All good here in York, looking forward to a quiet, restful evening doing nothing very much after a stupidly busy day at work!  Grin

Was just at a party there.  'twas quite fun.  Lots of trad musicians there; they let me try to accompany them on the bodhrán, which was great.  Also was just great to sit about and listen them play.  And to do party stuff.

They say it is not that easy to be a good bodhran player.
I love camaraderie of traditional players. They like to get together and play. They play together good and bad players and they enjoy it together.
Why could not classical players be like that, with no rank behaviour.

There are some classical musicians who are nice and modest.

I am glad you had a good time.

I went to one similar. This was a Caelidh(?) to and the musicians ofcourse had one of theose bodhrans. One of them came over for a chat. We had a great time. When me and MrsBBM were on holiday in Cornwall recently, I saw one in a shop, in Mevagissy, and it cost around £30 odd  and it had a good sound to. MrsBBM said no!! Huh Still there we go!!! O well.

Jonathan. You've no excuse now for not seeing your relatives, 'cos as I live nearby,(Haywards Heath), you can quite easily pop round and see us to!! There is lovely food to be had at Cafe Wheeler(as a friend recently remarked!!).

Yes, as far as the rather snobbish ranking that seems to go on with classical musicians, that does'nt go on with the brass band world either. From the bottom rung to the chamionship section, bands welcome you with great cordiality.

I am teaching piano to a trombon player. He was self tought. He worked in secondery school for living.
Every year he goes to Cork for a summer workshop. There are the best jazz musicians teaching there.
I understand there is a voice teacher (singer) from England. There is a trombon player who lives in the USA.
He loves that workshop. I wish he can bring them here so I can have some classes on improvisation.

He played with a wrong mouthpiece all his life (it was too small) and on a bad trombone too.
He is relearning now because he bought new piece and an instrument.
He is an interesting person. Now he is in grade 3 piano Associated Board. I think he is my best student. He is just retired last year. He loves Purcell and Bach, Handel of course and others, but his first love is Jazz.

We have a good trompet player and good horn player. A band from Norway (small town) visited our band last summer. It was a lot of fun to hear two bands play and then they played together.

I tell you something t-p, is that would'nt be great to have a combined jazz/brass band concert!! We play a lot of jazz numbers these days. Be good if someone could do some arrangments of the standards, and maybe have seperate and combined sessions during aforesaid concert!!
