Thanks, Tommo, on all counts. I don't suppose the all Russian one will be too easy to find, but I will go searching.

Bryn, just have a look around you. Notice anything? Glistening leeks. Black scotty tatties. Anything Russian at all?

Might you, possibly, be on the wrong thread?  Grin

Possibly, but I do prefer my spuds blue, rather than black.

Apple charlotte for pudding with custard.
Unfortunately I made neither, and even less fortunately they came from a shop.

Mort, is it these guys?

Best Indian takeaway I've come across anywhere. I think they're confined to London, though.  Cry

Blimey, I think I'd be the wrong side of the Chana Granita for them lot! Cheesy However, the last time that I was in Earls Court (bear with me) I came across a restaurant called Masala Zone. Fresh food? Omigod!! It just zings off the plate. And the chutneys!! Yessssss!  I discovered later that it's part of a small chain (there's one in Islington. See? told you to bear with me Grin)  What really swung it for me was the fresh coriander chutney. Gorgeous!

lentil soup it'll be for me.

(I also think I'm finally on speaking-terms with mace now; after a fortuitous accident involving some chickpea soup Smiley  ).

Grilled pork loin steak with a thin slice of blue cheese on top, served with mashed potatoes and simple boiled cabbage dressed with a knob of juniper butter.

Nothing burning tonight.
Went out for major lunch today with the head of performance.
I had a game terrine followed by a steamed fillet of sea bream with ginger and mussels. All finished off with a plum and amaretto clafoutis, and a lot of the cheese that he'd ordered for himself. Good wine to accompany it, and it was framed by a gin & tonic on one side, and an espresso on the other. I was just on that cusp of being sated and almost being full.
All of that means that tonight I've just hard boiled a couple of eggs, chopped them up and sprinkled them with salt and pepper in open sandwiches. I think I'll have a banana (to counteract the eggs) and some cake and biscuits later with another cup of tea. I love Sunday tea.

Lovely lamb, gorgeous greens and splendid spuds (raised to magnificent heights by the addition of some goose fat). Oh, and the gravy wasn't half bad either! Smiley

Well as long as the gravy ended up on your plate and not on the floor you're doing better than I was last night!

Their best-known branch is in Soho, but they have recently opened a new one 30 seconds away from the Royal Opera House, next door to Bertorelli's, which is very useful before and after lengthy Wagnerian performances.  It's a slightly odd place to go with friends, however - they are mainly geared towards single-portion meals, unlike your usual curry house where things come in serving dishes to be shared around the table.

Nice food, though, and very reasonably priced.

Do you remember that I mentioned my ham hough a while ago? It is a ham hough not a hock. Apparently it's the shin.
It's been sat in my freezer waiting for me to have an excuse to cook it and it seemed the right time.
I'm cooking it with onion, garlic, celery, lentils, tomatoes and a couple of whole chillies (for flavour not heat) in the oven. It already smells and looks amazing. I'm winging it a bit as far as times and temperatures go (because I don't have the time to cook it according to but I am looking forward to it.
Time to peel some potatoes and chop some cabbage (and I think I'm going to make a little bit of parsley sauce too...).

It was lovely actually! If it had been cooked for longer then it would have been sublime but it was really good. I took the ham out twenty minutes before serving to allow it to rest, meanwhile I heated up the rest of the pot and added some sieved cornflour. Just before serving, I carved chunks of meat off the hough and chopped it up into bite-sized pieces and added it to the pot. I decided against parsley sauce (seeing as there was so much sauce in the casserole) so added a whole load of parsley in the end. Gorgeous and there's enough for at least a couple more meals!
Now we're having tea and listening to Aldo Clementi.

Erm. Are you referring to the possible side-effects of cabbage and lentils, or to pudding (it was the remains of the apple charlotte) or possibly to something else? The Aldo was a lovely end to the evening.
