Not terribly exciting tonight but just about all I can manage after what feels like a long day of multitasking.
I'm heating up some fishcakes and some oven chips and griddling a dismembered courgette.
I was going to reheat last night's risotto but I made the mistake of trying the canteen's chilli con carne today, which could have been renamed chilli con cardboard, so after that rice-rich lunch, the idea of rice for dinner too made me feel a bit dischuffed.

I too have oven chunky chips, some Wiltshire Marmalade roasted gammon, tom and onion salad.  Lazy meal.

Somehow, multi-tasking is so tiring is it not?  Who invented it?  W£y do we have to do£ it??  Sigh. £

Another disappointing new potato experience tonight. Sigh. I haven't bothered with them for weeks after the tasteless Jersey Royals, but I was seduced by some good looking ones today. Mistake. Zilch taste. Indifferent texture. Guess I'll have to wait for the knobbly Shetland Blacks/Purples (or whatever they are) later in the year. My relationship with potatoes is currently off Cry

I was disappointed with this year's Jersey Royals too, Mort.  I haven't had new potatoes for a couple of months now.

I bought a bag of Desiree to top a shepherd's pie a couple of weeks ago.  I finished off the remains of the bag this evening with a couple of Aberdeen Angus burgers and some boiled carrots.  They had loads of flavour, and they were only Tesco ones.

When in doubt, wash.

Roasted some Maris Pipers the other day, Mort and they were luvverly - but perhaps their taste was enhanced by their crispiness.

I just cooked spaghetti this evening. With a simple tomato and garlic sauce. And veggie parmesan that isn't. With an optional blob of jarred pesto. Must make my own one day with a Pestle and Morticiar.

It's been a day of disappointment.
Those fishcakes were underseasoned (actually I'm not sure if they were seasoned) and I'm not sure if there was any potato involved... So they were just minced cod covered in breadcrumbs.
I make better fishcakes. So why do I buy these things? Well I couldn't be bothered tonight. Had no energy.

Leberkäse, strangely named in that it contains neither liver nor cheese, has been the basis of my repast this evening, with a more or less traditional accompaniment of potato salad and sauerkraut. Not the healthiest thing in the world but at least I forewent the fried egg on top.

Never, ever, forego the egg on top. It is a crime, and should carry a sentence of imprisonment.

Potatoes: I've virtually stopped eating them at all this year, so disappointed have I been. It's rice, beans, pasta and bread for me.  Cry

It's not been a good year for potatoes, has it?

On the other hand, the maincrop spuds in last week's veg box were actually rather good - we had them roasted as an accompaniment to a local chicken at the weekend.  So perhaps things are looking up.

I'm going to be cooking all afternoon for the curry supper for my friends this evening.  I'm doing a Balti, a Madras and a Milly-curry of my own invention.  So that's me out of mischief for the day!  Grin

You're obviously back to being your old hot-stuff self, Mills, if you can rice to the occasion and curry favour with your guests. Wink
