Do you watch the football when the young'un plays? Even if you haven't the slightest interest in spectator sports I know how important it is for children to know how proud we are of them, even if they don't score goals.  Kiss

Yes I just watch. I think it is so important to encourage children in whatever they decide to do.  I wasn't sporty at school and I don't have the slightest interest in any sports at all.  The only thing I did well in the way of "sport" was ice skating.  I used to do ballet/tap/jazz.   My husband was an all-round excellent sportsman, very athletic and fit.  His father was a professional footballer for Stoke in the days of Stanley Matthews.   All my boys have been sporty - our own and my stepsons and now my little grandson.  They've all been very good all-rounders.  One of my sons has a black belt in martial arts and little 'un goes to karate every week and has taken to it as well.  I think he's going to follow in his uncle's footsteps.  I take him to swimming, football practice twice a week and to karate - none of which I like at all - so it really is above and beyond the call of duty.   Grin

Thanks Jan.  I've been up and taken some beautiful red roses, carnations and lilies.  It looks lovely with a little card from me and another from the boys.  We're ok now really.

Milly, who is that fetching boxer in your avatar? A pet of yours? I grew up with a boxer named Sir Henry, and later we had another called Boris.  The latter was named after Boris Becker of tennis fame, and unfortunately, Becker's career ourlasted our poor canine...

Love them boxers!!

Yes, he's mine.  Alfie.  We have another one in the family - Dudley - and also a Dogue de Bordeaux, Bruno.

I've had 5 boxers in my lifetime, all rescues - this one no exception.   The first one we had when I was a child was Simon and I grew up with him.  I was an only child so we spent a lot of time together.  Lovely dog.  They are a fantastic breed, so intelligent, athletic and full of fun.  I adore them.  Smiley

Milly, like this one?

Sweet! I find my animal a great source of comfort. But she's a cat. And yet she behaves like a dog in the sense of being needy and loving...  Kiss

Exactly like that one - in fact facially that could be him!!  His colour is slightly lighter and a bit more gingery.  He's not quite as stocky yet because he's only a young dog, but he's absolutely beautiful.

That one is almost identical.  There was a film a few years ago called "Turner and Hooch".  I remember taking the kids and we all fell in love with Hooch.  He popularised the breed and there are many people who have bought them since.  There is also another strain which is a lovely bluish colour - I think they're called Neopolitan Mastiffs.  Gorgeous!

Only problem ....they really really really really DROOL Grin

Boxers are a bit dribbly but trust me, Dogues de Bordeaux abuse the privilege!  If they watch you eat they blow bubbles and then great long spaghetti drools start to drop from those big floppy lips!  I find it most amusing and quite endearing but the general consensus of opinion of my friends is that it isn't a sight for the faint-hearted.  Grin

I didn't know that. I've only really known one, called Poppy, who was simply the daftest dog I've ever met. I absolutely adored her though (I think it was that look of complete bafflement at absolutely everything that melted me), and although I only saw her once a week I was pathetically touched when the family told me I was the only visitor she never barked at when I rang the doorbell.  Embarrassed

Anyway, after Poppy I had always assumed that all boxers were a bit like that.

A very happy and above all peaceful midsummer to you all. A glorious sunrise has just occurred here, and it was well worth the night-long wait.                Now i'm off to bed! Goodnight!

Good morning to the people who are awake.
I came home late after a wonderful playing of my friends trad session. They mixed some classical repertoire in there too.

We have a good sunshine too.
