Everything seemed ok if a little lacklustre

A bit like waking life then. I never seem either to remember dreams at all, or if I do they are stultifyingly dull and workaday. Unlike my brother. One day when we were in our teens, he asked me what I'd dreamt the night before over breakfast. It so happens I remembered having one of those dreams where you dream you wake up, get out of bed, brush teeth etc. - then wake up and do all those things for real. So I told him that. Then he told me his, which involved waging war singlehandedly on a battalion of maurauding giant Chinese dragons, slaying at least 50 of them before they retreated behind their defences (a giant wall of dragon dung), whereupon my brother summons forth his laser canon....

Sigh.

As a child, such dreams tended to result in me wetting the bed.

I had an odd dream last night in which it was communicated to me that in Mexico that the majority of bars are not bars at all merely façades so that the masquerading  "bar owners" can (pretend to) show off their mental facilities to shatter wine-glasses at a distance.

I think a separate "What I dreamt last night" thread might be very fruitful. I never ever remember my dreams, and could use such a thread as Ersatz.

As a matter of interest, m, what is your brother doing now?

Funny you should ask that, Don. He teaches English Lit at university (specialising in children's literature) and... writes teen-lit fantasy novels!

Console yourself it sounds boringly predictable, m.

Holidays. Anyone having an exciting one this year? I'm hoping to be in Wales for a couple of weeks later on this summer. But what I'd really like to do is trek, Dough-style, somewhere in South America and live a bit rough. I'm probably not in good enough shape though.

(That's two sentences with four words ending with 'ough', and probably breaks some kind of editorial rule.)

Meanwhile, the pumpkin is calling... night all!

There are plenty of charity treks going all over the place, martle. Many of them need you to sign up a year before you go, so you have a bit of a chance to shape yourself before the hard work starts. Dode, my walking buddy, still hasn't forgiven me for doing South Africa without him, and is scouring the periodicals weekly for the right trip for the right charity (which has to be cancer-related due to his daughter's illness five years ago).
