I've been watching BBC4 all night. There has been the most brilliant programme on called "Dangerous Knowledge" about Cantor, Boltzman, Gödel and Turing, with guest appearance by Roger Penrose no less. Fascinating. All about uncertainty and logic. I wish there were more programmes like this, they're meat and drink to me.

Apart from glancing at Rick Stein whilst I was cooking, the maths programme was the only thing I saw on telly last night. And well worth it. I thought the presenter was absolutely spot on - not over-dramatic, and not patronising.
Can we have more?

The treadmill would be a doddle but step machines etc., I've never tried. I've never done any exercises with "machinery" at all.
I'll give it a go anyway. I just want to look as good as I can for as long as I can, taking into account the inevitable ageing process.
Milly, darling. I suggest that when on the treadmill you repeat to yourself "Richard Dawkins, Richard Dawkins, Richard Dawkins." You will probably be suprised at the untapped energy to which you will gain access. It may get your irritation with the man out of the system. Good luck. The problem with CV machines is catatonic boredom, which I never find allayed by the daytime TV which some gyms thoughtfully provide to distract the exercising punters.

I'm saving the Dawkins-chant for the punchbag! I shan't watch the tv but will take my ipod and listen to all my favourites instead.

No, although if you pick the right gym (anywhere in Covent Garden is generally a good bet) then the exercising punters themselves can be quite a suitable distraction.

I shan't watch the tv but will take my ipod and listen to all my favourites instead. The ipod is an excellent idea. I never tried listening to classical music, which I think would be a mistake. I used to listen to the Rough Guide to the Music of Jamaica, or Haiti or somewhere like that, or hits from Luther Vandross. Nothing where you want to concentrate on the music. This is one context where regular pounding beat is essential. tinners - There are indeed opportunities to admire lissom and lovely young things scantily clad, but at my age this does not encourage physical energy - just the temptation to sit down, gaze and murmur to myself "Isn't he nice?"

I shall look forward to that then! (P.S. I shall be listening to the Gypsy Kings) http://www.gipsykings.com/
