That sounds wonderful!  I know Snake Pass very well.  Not a good place to be stranded in the snow but I think very beautiful in its bleakness.

I have a favourite little sheltered spot beside Fair Brook, just below and to the east of the Naze where I sometimes bivy for a few days to 'get away from it all'. Glorious area with amazingly fast and wide-ranging changes in weather.

Beautiful but dangerous (Just like me  Grin).  Because the weather is so unpredictable and can change so quickly, it's not a place to go unprepared for any eventuality.  Not a good place to break down in the car either! To get away from it all - idyllic - if you know what you're doing.

You could do worse than to search Google Maps for "Snake Pass Inn" ("Snake Pass" itself leads to the right place on the map, but its location is wildly wrongly described by Google Maps). However, even "Snake Pass Inn" is a little problematic re. Google Maps. "C" (hidden behing "B" in the magnification linked to here gives the location most accurately. "B" is near by, but on the other side of the road. By the way, you need to shuffle the map the link brings up to get "Edale" to just below the centre of the frame to get the best overview of the route.

Just what I was referring to by "amazingly fast and wide-ranging changes in weather". I have experienced blazing sunshine, snow and torrential rain, turning Fair Brook into something a great deal less "fair", in the space of an hour, up there. As you say, you need to go prepared.

Looks as though it's a wonderful place to be Bryn. Sounds like my cup of tea!

The road from Castelton to Slackkhall is pretty impressive too.  I think I know where my post-credit-crunch-have-to-stay-in-england-cos-i'm-not-going-to-give-up-skiing-abroad-summer-holiday is going to be.....

I have a friend who celebrated her marriage (which was effected at Finsbury Registry Office) with a party in the Snake Pass, or at least a field on the way up.  They had a large tent, and the husband, who was part of a chamber ensemble, played a movement from a Mozart Quintet with his group.

The marriage is looking extremely rocky at the moment, sorry to say.

Happy birthday, Blue Peter! Some of you will have watched it as children, when you weren't doing your piano practice. I watched it with my children  - the time of John Noakes, Peter Purves and Lesley Judd mostly, though for some reason Valerie Singleton seems the iconic presenter to me. It used to be a good programme - not so sure now, but no doubt it still serves a purpose. Ah, the tortoise being put to bed for the winter, the disappearing cats, the dogs, the Advent crown.....

I remember when Valerie Singleton and Christopher Trace were on the team. So that's going a while back! Showing my age, methinks! Shocked

And here's one I did earlier.

I remember years ago a primary school teacher saying what a relief it was not to have to save all those Squeezy bottles for making something seen on Blue Peter, now she had moved on.

When I grew up, I learnt that John Nokes had a considerable gay following, or at least among adolescent and pre-adolescent boys who in due time defined themselves as gay.  Can't say I was bothered.  Presumably it was the boyish combination of gentleness and ruggedness that appealed.
