This is a link that may be of interest to BBM from the Nation on Film website, short clips about brass bands in the mining communities.

Thanks for that Antheil. Most interesting and enjoyable to watch. Other people on these boards should do the same. Give an idea as to what I get up to! Good to watch the rather nostalgic scenes too. Ofcourse the styles  of music has changed but the comeraderie hasnt.

I think my new address is going to be the Cardiac Unit at the local hospital.  I was sent this Halloween email. The link is here, but I warn you it isn't for the faint-hearted.  Shocked  I nearly fell off the chair. <bringmethesmellingsaltsemoticon>

Lucky for me that it's blocked from here.  Cup of tea quite safe then.   Smiley

Mary, it'll be ok as long as you turn the sound off Wink Cheesy Actually it reminds me of something that Roslynmuse posted a while back. I seem to remember that Martle had to change his shirt afterwards ... Grin

I didn't know where to post this because we don't have an "Embarrassment" thread.  I've had a child over to play with mine this afternoon.  He hasn't been before, but goes to the same school and is nearly two years older.  He lives nearby.

My child was showing him his Nintendo DS games.  For the uninitiated, they're very small and very expensive.  About the size of an After 8 mint and cost on average about £30 each.  To cut a long story short, I took the visiting child home and dropped mine off for his piano lesson.  We returned home and unfortunately 6 of these games have gone missing.  We took the room apart and looked everywhere.  Nothing.

So...I just drove round to the house with my child and asked very tactfully if this child might have borrowed some of our games or perhaps put them somewhere different in our house?  His mother, behind his back immediately mouthed "I'm sorry."  He reached into his pocket and took out one of the games which he gave back straight away, but said he didn't have any more.  He obviously has.  His mother apologised and said it was "totally out of character for him" - which it couldn't have been because she apologised immediately before he even handed one over.  She then said she would go through all his stuff and if she finds any more will bring them back tomorrow.  There are still 5 missing.

It's just so embarrassing.  The trouble is, if he says he can't find any more, then it will be impossible to prove.  They're small enough to hide even from his mother.

Oh dear.  Sad

We've had another thorough search to make sure we aren't mistaken but the games have definitely gone from their case.  £150.00 worth.  It's even more disappointing because the mother informed me today she'd studied at the Royal Academy in London and can play viola and piano.  I'd asked if we could try some duets in the near future - and she agreed.  Now it's going to be really awkward.

Not for the first time in my life, I really don't know what to do.  Sad
