One couple have been told to take down their halloween decsm because from other residents in their block of flats and members of the public have complained to them about it being a nuisance. I thought OMG, especially when youngsters came round the spefically to have a look at them. The previous mangememnt company of tthe said flats never said anything. On;y when they were taken over by this present company have they been told to take them down or they would have to pay £600 to offeset the costs that the management company would have to pay for them to be taken down!!

Haywards Heath is where I live, Antheil, just in case you didnt know. All rather stupid really isn't it?
That flight you took Anty, you must've felt a bit uncomfortable.
Strange, everytime we go by Stonehenge, my wife's body goes all cold every time. mind you she is more susceptiuble to those kind of things.

BBM, I know you live in Haywards Heath, on the BBC News it did look a bit too spooky, for children, that is.

It was on the news was it. Damn, I missed that! They were quite a site! Bit dangerous, I suppose, while your driving. Sainsburies and the railway station are down that way. Infact, historically, that's the oldest part of the town. it was a market town originally.

Is there anything about these decorations on the BBC news website? I had a look but couldn't find anything. A link to some pictures would be nice.

When I saw the title of the Baroque Opera thread this morning I initially read it as a reference to the US president elect...

Very good, increpatio! I wish I mentioned that. Someone's brain cells worki ng ok today on this dismal morning!
I had forgotten what Lewes Bonfire Night was like! Tremendous atmpsphere, loads of people, thousands infact, lining the street, cheering as we marched by. I was leading the band last night. I've never done that before. Quite exillerating experience, marching infront of the band. People were very happy. One or two disruptiveness but I am sure you cant get away with that, and people just generally runing across, damn it. All in all, despite the dreaded R word starting to come down! Very good eveing.

When I lived in Sussex I went to Lewes Bonfire Night. Quite a spectacle. I noticed here how few fireworks there have been, a sympton of the credit crunch? Well done to BBM for being Leader of The Band!! Although I am surprised all the smoke did not bring on your asthma.

The town of Ottery St Mary in Devon (recently in the news for the size of its hailstones) used to have the custom of rolling blazing tar barrels down the main street. I learn they now carry the barrels down the street: http://www.otterytourism.org.uk/events.htm and http://www.otterytarbarrels.co.uk/history.htmlDo they still burn an effigy of the Pope at Lewes? I'd find that distasteful, even though I'm no great fan of non-Italian popes.

BBM's right. They do. It all gets a little, er, intense in this sleepy little town one night per year. BBM, you can read about the background history here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sussex_Bonfire_SocietiesApparently there are also more witches in the vicinity of Lewes than in any other town in Europe. But that may be just an old Pope's tale...
