There were small places that I seems to remember. We avoided Chicago on advace of AAA travel agend. Illinois is beautiful place.
A fascinating contribution as always. Richard, this is the Waffle thread. And t-p was waffling beautifully in that post so your sarcasm is unjustified. Just a little question... why is it always sarcasm if a comment - however nice - is made about t-p. ? Just a little question you understand, not a criticism ... heaven forbid. A Oh, was I mistaken? No, I was really being sarcastic. Out of order here Richard. I really don`t wish to create a tornado out of something that isn`t even a storm in a tea cup, but there is a great deal of verbal horseplay here and a fair amount of sarcasm hurled around. I didn`t detect any malice in what Richard said, just sarcasm that he has admitted to. Why is he out of order? Have I missed something? I'll get me pyjamas. I don't really have anything to add, just enjoying the accordion-like way that this thread is developing.

I've stayed in the Marriott in Chicago, and driven from there to Rockford IL. I'm sorry, that's not waffle Also once driving from Chicago to Davenport, Iowa, we broke down on the highway. Soon a cop car came to assist. First thing he said was 'Hello Mr Wright'. This was 20 years ago, and it was quite scary back then (before computers etc) that the cop knew who I was, from the licence plate which was out of state. See who can figure out why I would be going to Davenport Iowa, what was I going to see.

Chafe has got it. I'm not related to Bix but in a driving holiday from Ohio to Yellowstone Park I skillfully put Davenport on the route. We had missed the Bix festival but took the time to look round the town and saw his well-tended gravesite. Twas best holiday we ever had. The kids were 6 and 4 and can't remember much now

I'm absolutely clueless, so you might (or might not) find these links interesting: Prof. J.WrightJ.Wright co.I don't know Bix's music nearly well-enough, but the little I do know, I just love (thanks to "The Beiderbecke Affair", "The Beiderbecke Tapes" etc.)

There's quite a few John Wright Co., none are me Kitty, None of the music in the Beiderbecke Affair was Bix recordings. I don't know why, but they couldn't use the original recordings (Okeh or Victor). Instead they got a band to record well-known Bix-Trumbauer tunes but inexplicably did not use Tram/Bix arrangements or solo lines. Very disappointing to me.

For all of us disappointed that Fabuleux Millie is now a non-runner (ha! is this ANOTHER one that doesn't like the rain? ? Remember Orange Stravinsky!) if you'd like an alternative flutter, now's the time to get in there and choose.

There was a chap at where I used to work called John Wright. Really oddly, everywhere I have ever worked (except my current job), there has been someone called Peter Marsh (it's not the same chap, as far as I know!)

I was going to say I know a Pete Marsh, but in fact it's 'March' and I keep saying Marsh I keep meeting people called Pete King and Robert Lee, yet I've never known a John Smith or a David Jones and as for women there are too many Sharons and Traceys

Does anyone remember that man from the Iron Age, or thereabouts, whose body was found well preserved in some boggy land some years ago? He was given the name Pete Marsh (Peat and Marsh, geddit).
