(A sidetrack from the Musical Connections Thread.)
BEARDS!

Guilty As Charged...........?  Not a Musical Connection?  Well, I can have beards in the same sense that I had Chess Players earlier, or if I remember some of the early Musical Connections correctly, there were some connections not defined by works....

Before I get my coat and retire to the naughty corner, may I just post this......

PS - I was about to say 'It's under your nose...' as a final clue....

May I also just say that Brahms, Gounod, and Knussen have FIRST RATE, full beards.

Myaskovsky and Tchaikovsky are SECOND RATE.

Debussy, his beard not quite joining with his hair, does not quite reach the standards of the Russians, and is THIRD RATE.

Ferneyhough and Roslavets are clearly inferior to Debussy, and are FOURTH RATE.

Harris is unrated.

Finally, could I direct members to this splendid growth?

Mr Tommo delights with an admirable selection of facial growth, does he not? We wonder whether members may be interested to post on the connestion between beards and compositional fecundity. We have observed that many of the figures we most admire choose to thus adorn themselves, Mr Grew most definitely included!

However, there are composers who, in the past, have shown themselves entirely unwilling to adopt proper forms of facial hygeine or 'taste' in the realms of of the hirsute:

We are not very often amused when we don our attire, either.

Oh yes; it was quite the giggle-inducing read! (not that there's anything wrong with cross-dressing, of course).

Tommo's link in the first post reminded me somehow of a Danish cookie...

one of the ones in the middle, but vanilla rather than chocolate. Not sure what piece it reminds me of...

It's possible to have the best (or the worst) of both worlds.

Not that it is of the slightest importance but just curious....is "By the hair of my chinny chin chin......." really a sticky topic ?
