Do you have a beard, BobbyZ.

No t-p. It would be nice to have the option for an occasional change of image but whenever I have tried, the result has been rather an unsatisfactory straggly affair !

This is for the best BobbyZ. All (most) bearded men look alike (in my view).

We forgot Rimsky-Korsakov.
That Mussorgsky nose is very red. His eyes are still intelligent.

While we're at it with these Russians, Glinka (very neat and tidy!):

Here's Charles Ives - one of the top 20th century composers. Don't spoil this by pointing out that the beard appeared after he composed most of his music.

Two composers we don't usually associate with a beard, but had one at certain points in their lives:

Mahler

Ravel (on the right)

I thinking may be bearded composers outnumber not bearded ones. Some can be in both cathegories.

I could never understand what kind of a hat Glinka wearing. I never saw anything like that. Is is a turkish hat? Was it fashionable at a time? Did Mozart have one of those?

And one we do associate with a beard. Would you trust him with your motor-bike ?
No doubt Sydney Grew can furnish us with the "low-down".

Fantastic! Out of interest, who's the geezer on the left?

That's Ricardo Viņes. The photograph was taken in 1905; it's included in Stuckenschmidt's book on Ravel.

Ian (one-time beard wearer, but that's a long time ago Wink )

Not that it is of the slightest importance but just curious....is "By the hair of my chinny chin chin......." really a sticky topic ?

I think it became sticky when John moved some posts from 'New Musical Connections' (a sticky thread) to it.  A sort of sticky inheritance.

I would apreciate it if it could be made unsticky.  But not the most urgent thing in the world......
