We seem to have got somewhat off the subject of Proms meet-ups  Grin

Are we still planning gatherings of various members on both Friday (Boulez/Janacek) and Saturday (Belshazzar) this week?  I will be at both.

I had totally got confused about dates. Friday a kind Member is taking me to Westminster Cathedral for the Blessed Virgin Mary's Annunciation party (I nearly wrote birthday party but I think that's September 8th). If I can hot-foot it to South Kensington afterwards I will do, but I only realised this afternoon that Boulez/Janacek is then and not on the 17th.

I think you'll find it's the Assumption rather than the Annunciation, tinners Wink  The feast of the Annunciation falls on 25th March, preceding Christmas by the nominal length of the human gestation period.

If everything goes to plan, I should be getting to the RAH just before 5pm next Friday. If so, I will get hold of a 'cloakroom ticket' and head for the Pre-Prom do with PB and RW, over at the RCM.

I have to get the 10.35pm coach back to leafy Braccan Heal. Where do we meet up? Door 9, or where?

Since some members are likely to be shaking buckets, perhaps we could meet in dribs and drabs in a pub rather than at a door?

The nearest are ICU and the Nines (Queens Arms).  Any preferences?

ICU is closer and the beer's cheaper (assuming they haven't run out). Officially one has to be a member of either Imperial College (or an alumnus/a), or of the BBCSC or BBC staff to buy beer, but one can join their refectory club for a whole pound which also gives entitlement.

It does, of course, rely on them asking for some proof of eligibility  Roll Eyes

Some people, should be careful when they post in TOP. If there are some postings look not right, they only have to report them to the mods. That board can never be compared to this one. Why dont people like wilf(have said this before) come and post here as well?

My preference is for IC as well (for the reasons mentioned above, as well as the better range of beer and the fact that my bus home goes from outside the front door).  And as there are at least four of us here who possess proof of entitlement, I'm sure a couple of us could skive off the collection to ensure everybody is adequately watered.  There will be plenty of other regular collectors around.

Re Wilf:

Probably because it seems that he believes that there's a chance that what he writes at TOP will be read by those who run the Beeb, and may even help to influence them, whereas our independence makes that less likely, bbm. Also, his posts have always concentrated on the way R3 is run and presented, so the more sociable aspect here will doubtless interest him less.

I'm not sure that anyone knows exactly who he might be, but the extent and regularity of his travelling suggest someone with fairly serious business or even diplomatic status, so perhaps he may even know folk at the Beeb to reinforce his belief that commenting there may have more effect.

That seems fair point Ron Dough. I suppose with that in mind with what your saying, RD, maybe  he wont be. Pity, he seems a very knowledgable person and a good one as well.

If you'll pardon my ignorance, I haven't seen the discussion on TOP to which BBM refers above (I've looked, but can't work out which thread it might be) but what's all this got to do with Prom Meet-ups? Huh

I'm as mystified as you, Ruth: but had I put the answer to bbm's anywhere else post anywhere else, I'm sure that there would have been even more general mystification.  Wink

Seems a little clarification is in order here!!! Huh

Well, what I was saying had nothing to do, really with any threads at all. It was just a general idea Ive had going round in my mind for sometime. I just thought it was strange that someone like wilf was'nt on these boards. Ron Dough seem to clear a few things up in his post. Thank you Ron!! Sorry about the mystifications that were caused.
