To be honest Ian, I do not think that the announcements thread is the place for general discussion.
I will move /rename the split topic it to anywhere else if neccessary, but as anyone can now access it where it is, I do not see the need.

I would call on all candidates to kindly outline where they stand in terms of moderation style. One thing I don't think I've actually written down: I understand moderation as reflecting the wishes of the members rather than imposing a certain kind of discussion in its own right. Reactive, in other words (word). Personally I can't for the moment imagine a situation where I would act to move or remove posts without a direct request from a member except in the matter of offensive content. I should perhaps make it clear though that I don't mean this as a direct comment on the recent reorganisation of this thread. A wish on my part: I would very much like to have the chance for the moderators to wear two hats. I'd rather not have to deprive myself of the jolliness here but to participate with a moderator hat on would feel inappropriate. (er... I do hope I've put this in the right place? )

I am going to check out the new board as tired of arguments about moderation instead of arguments about classical music.

Are we going to have to have a new round of nominations after each vote?

This is what Michael posted yesterday:
This first poll will only be for one moderator, (as seemed the best idea from this thread) but as the poll will be open for 3 days, it will leave ample time for new nominations when the next poll is opened after the first closes.
This would also allow for people who are away from the net for a week to have a chance on the next set of polls.

"In terms of not having all-male candidates, would Mort be prepared to stand?"
After some pondering, I`m throwing my bonnet into the ring. Although the existing nominees are pretty damn solid and could only be good for the board.

That's very kind of you, bbm, but I think there are plenty of fine candidates currently nominated. Dependent on the result, I may put myself forward in the second or third rounds. (I had actually typed out my nomination when only John had offered himself as a candidate and, on posting, found the 'Warning - a new message has been posted' revealing Ollie's nomination, so I quickly modified mine and seconded him instead!)

Apologies if I've missed something here, but why this sort of poll ? It could prevent the most popular candidate(s) from winning. It doesn't need explaining why. Does it ?
