The overwhelming opinion from everyone expressing one seems to be for three moderators.
I'm in favour of the votes being carried out one after the other rather than in one poll (as said above, though now I've re-read Richard's post I agree that it's wise to decide how many we're going to have before actually voting).
It might be wise to have a poll to confirm that is the majority view of posters, closing at 9pm tomorrow (say).
We could then go ahead with a timetable and procedure with which posters agreed rather than ending up with squabbles over what should have been done after the event (hanging chads and such like).

We will have three sets of polls, each with one moderator being appointed.

We can get far too 'hung up' with proceduralism purely for its own sake!

It seems clear to me (from my sense of things on this MB, after many months as a Member) that the list as it currently stands (even before further names are added) is comprised entirely of members who are well respected and completely trustworthy.

Surely, therefore, the smart thing actually to do is use ONE poll in order to elect THREE Moderators. We just need to be given a closing date by which nominations must appear.

Baz

Hey baz, check the first post for the closing date.

In a situation like this (re: one moderator being posted or 3) it will be difficult to come to an agreement.  We could have a poll on it.... but I personally don't think that is a great idea as it would only make things more complicated.

This first poll will only be for one moderator, (as seemed the best idea from this thread) but as the poll will be open for 3 days, it will leave ample time for new nominations when the next poll is opened after the first closes.

This would also allow for people who are away from the net for a week to have a chance on the next set of polls.

With respect Michael, the phrase "after a few days" does not give a time and date by which nominations are terminated. We need to know exactly when this will be.

If you have decided that we will be voting only for one moderator, then that is what YOU have decided. I have no particular objection other than to sigh at the thought of going through the same process two further times (which I personally should have considered the more complicated).

Thanks for this clarification, Michael, which was needed. I'd agree with hh that it's best that everyone is crystal clear about how this is going to work before the process begins. As such, I shall refrain from standing at present (despite Antheil already seconding me!) as I wouldn't wish to split the vote...

Hey guys, hope you are all keeping well.

The first step in moving things forward is to bring in a new moderator.  Some suggestions were that a moderator should be someone who doesn't participate in discussions... but as the choice is ultimately yours, we'll let this thread decide.

This is how it will work.  If you want to be the new moderator, you need to nominate yourself by posting here.  But for that to be considered, another member has to post here that they second you.

After a few days, all of the members that have nominated and been seconded will be put in a poll, for you, the community to vote on.

NOMINATIONS:

JohnW - Seconded by Kittybriton
OlliverSudden - Seconded by Il Grande Inquisitor
richard barrett - Seconded by OlliverSudden
Ron Dough - Jonathon

EDIT :
Closing date for self nominations is Tuesday 23/10/2007 at 13:00
Closing date for Seconds is Tuesday 23/10/2007 at 19:00

In case we're in any doubt.
I don't think that three polls are more complex.
IMO it's a fairer procedure and it doesn't take that much effort to vote in a poll here.

Neither does anyone else. What's the problem?

Anna, I'm confused too but thanks for that hh, I didn't realise things had moved on. Michael, did you 'modify' message instead of 'quote' ??

Anyway, do we wait till Tuesday to see how many nominations there are?  Undecided

Hey John,

I think it only fair we give people the time to see this thread, and I know that some people do not like to use the internet, or even have access to the internet over the weekends.
