I can't remember what the link theme was, ah yes roslyn you're right  Grin

Joseph Haydn - Symphony No 60 - Il Distratto
Donizetti -
Joseph Strauss -
Tchaikovsky -
Medtner -
Leroy Anderson - Forgotten Dreams

IGI, I was thinking of something more forgettable from Tchaikovsky

The trouble with the Strauss family is that they wrote so much...

How about Delirious (opus 212) for Josef Strauss?

I had been looking through my Strauss box of 6 CDs (Boskovsky - EMI). And I had been distracted by the Haydn name. There's Vergissmeinnicht (Forget Me Not) which is not amongst them.

Medtner wrote three cycles of Forgotten Melodies (op.38, 39 & 40).
There's a Tchaikovsky song: Zabït tak skoro (So soon forgotten)

And Donizetti wrote lots of operas which are now...um...forgotten.

Well done IGI!

Joseph Haydn - Symphony No 60 - Il Distratto
Donizetti -
Joseph Strauss - Vergissmeinnicht (Forget Me Not)
Tchaikovsky - Zabït tak skoro (So soon forgotten)
Medtner - Forgotten Melodies
Leroy Anderson - Forgotten Dreams

There is a particular Donizetti work which even HE forgot...... even though the title suggested he should not have......

Donizetti - Ne m'oubliez pas
Joseph Strauss - Vergissmeinnicht (Forget Me Not)

I wonder if Liszt's Valses oubliées were amongst the reserves? I don't know a lot of Medtner's piano music, only the concertos, but there are some tempting recordings out there by the likes of Hamish Milne, Geoffrey Tozer and Marc-André Hamelin.

Here's a new quartet to solve:

Britten
Prokofiev
Finzi
Boyce

A seasonal selection?

Britten - Spring Symphony?
Prokofiev - Summer Night (there's also a Summer Day)
Finzi - The Fall of the Leaf
Boyce - A Winter's Tale

A couple of very quick responses there, gentlemen! Nothing linked to Shakespeare or the seasons this time, I'm afraid. The Britten and Prokofiev require a little digging but have received a number of recordings.

Well, I can't find the Prokofiev, but here's my guess anyway (I was working on a puzzle with this theme - imagine my dismay when three of IGI's composers matched what I had come up with! And if it's not right, and I've blown my chance to set a puzzle with this theme, how much more dismayed I will be...):

Boyce: Hail, hail, auspicious day! New Year’s Day 1756
Finzi: New Year Music, nocturne Op.7
Britten: A New Year Carol
Prokofiev: Huh  (An Ode to the End of War would be an appropriate New Year's sentiment, but I can't find a work with the requisite words in the title.)

to you, strina! I suspect Tippett was also on your list and, possibly, Lumbye, who were some of my reserves. There are a number of Boyce alternatives! The Prokofiev is from his Waltz Suite.

Britten - Friday Afternoons, Op.7: A New Year Carol
Prokofiev - Waltz Suite, Op.110 No.5: New Year's Eve Ball
Finzi - New Year Music, Op 7
Boyce - King's Ode for the New Year or his Ode for the New Year, 1774 or his Hail, hail, auspicious day! New Year’s Day 1756
