And anyway, given that he was a pilot, surely Volo Solo would be more apposite? Wink

It was Volo Solo of which I was thinking...

So we have:

Decius, Darth Hyllich ys Godt de vader
Leonin, Princess Leia Organa
Cardew, Han Volo Solo
Stockhausen, Luke In the sky I am walking-er

I hereby permit myself a heavenward eyeroll and a groan.

Sorry. I do have one more on the boil, but I'll wait till I get back to Edinburgh before posting it.
I enjoyed watching you struggle with it - hope you enjoyed it.

But if so there is the greater mystery of why IGI happened to light on that particular Stockhausen piece apparently at random. Truly His Eminence moves in mysterious ways.

I'd love to claim that the Inquisition is all-knowing and was trying to lead the rest of you to the answer, but it really was a bit of a fluke>

Now, bbm's quartet: Anything to do with works based on children's stories/ rhymes? (I don't know anything about Mr Preview's piece, but it sounds as if it should be based on children's literature!)

John Tavener - Variations on "Three Blind Mice"
Derek Bourgeois - Jabberwocky
Carl Davis - The Mermaid
Andre Previn - The Giraffes Go to Hamburg

Time to dig for some hints here. Is the Carl Davis one of his silent film scores he seems to specialise in? Is it a common word connection or is it thematic?

There is a common word link I can find, but I'm not too convinced. Is it weddings?

Tavener - A Village Wedding
Bourgeois - Wedding March
Davis - The Wedding March
Previn - A Wedding Waltz

Previn - Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Looking good, pw:

Bourgeois - Apocalypse (for brass band)
Tavener - The Apocalypse (1993)
Davis - The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse (which is apparently is based on Liszt's Fantasia Sonata Après une Lecture du Danté)

Goodness, two apocalypse connections within a month...is the world coming to an end?!  Cheesy
