Well, that's another case solved, Watson!
Glad to have helped. I shall sleep more easily tonight knowing that Noel has at last returned to daddy and I'm particularly relieved that Ollie has been sitting comfortably recently. But we've just had one of the best Proms so far and all you lot can talk about is fat composers and cheese. (Mind you, Brahms was a bit tubby. Probably too much of that smoked Bavarian stuff.)

I reckon you put it absent mindedly into the carton of your new Mac, which you then stowed.

I looked there! Also in the Sibelius and Finale boxes. (And no it wasn't there.)

OK, then: in the pocket of some warmish garment, stowed for the summer...

If you're anything like me, it was either in the fridge, or the washing machine.
(While taking out the chiddlers' laundry I came across a pork bone!)

I'd never want to leave a bone in the washing machine

If they ever get the idea that "Laundry Should Be Sorted And Checked Before Washing" I may have to take a day job for money.

Don't have a washing machine and while I didn't actually try the fridge mine is small enough and usually empty enough that something the size of a CD wouldn't be able to hide itself there for long... Bass clarinet case, yes, tried the bits of it where there would be room, the chalumeaus don't actually have cases...

Was it somewhere in the bathroom, having been taken there to have a look at when nature called, or something like that?

It was somewhere in your flat though?
Now we know that it was removed from its shelf on 4 July, unusual for a Christmas CD one might have thought, in order to post an extract here. So perhaps, instead of returning it to the 'Christmas' section, and maybe after an evening of dionysiac celebration and debauchery involving the burning of an effigy of His Late Majesty George III, you put it back in the 'Independence Day Celebrations' box on top of the wardrobe?
Or, inside a folder where you had put it 'so you wouldn't forget where it was'?

the burning of an effigy of His Late Majesty George III No, it wasn't inside the Eight Songs for a Mad King cover either...
