At some point soon, hh, take a look at Greyfriars Kirk - as in the famous Greyfriars Bobby - I remember going to a fabulous concert of Carver there, given by Capella Nova.
And might I gently inquire what's happened to the third Edinburgh Cathedral? It was still there last time I looked....

Morning all.
I'm just grateful that I don't have to teach until 11.
Time to get up now, have a shower, breakfast, jump on the bus, and prepare my afternoon's teaching.
I'm slightly embarassed that I didn't know about the RC cathedral in Edinburgh, despite the fact that I've gone past it a number of times...
Greyfriars Kirk will do nicely as an introduction to Presbyterianism I think.
No boiled egg for me this morning, though I can foresee muesli, tea, orange juice, a banana and toast with marmalade.
That's almost enough to provoke me into leaping out of bed.
Almost enough.

Morning.  Can't see what the weather is like because it's still dark and murky out there but the sea looks calm enough.

Another busy day ahead - youngster's piano lesson after school and then my friends coming round for our weekly Bridge night.  Got to get the house cleaned up of course and a bit of shopping.  R3 so much better before 8 a.m., don't you think?

Definitely a porridge morning, so just as well that the oatmeal/oatbran mixture was steeped yesterday evening and then given its first cook late last night, before being left in the pan with a tightly fitting lid to develop overnight. Just a quick heat this morning and it's ready. The warmer atlantic air certainly hasn't reached here yet, hence the need for the central heating first thing....

offbee,

I don't take sugar on cereals either, nor in tea (and I hardly touch coffee at all for safety reasons though I'll take sugar in an occasional Gaelic or Calypso coffee, and I'm quite partial to rum, particularly O.V.D.) To confound you still further, I'm a strawberries with black pepper person.

Should that be watermelon with soy sauce?  Soy sauce with watermelon sounds like a recipe for a horrible cocktail with a paper umbrella sticking out of a watermelon chunk wedged on the rim of the glass.

I like porridge gently cooked in milk, and then drizzled with lots of maple syrup and maybe some cream.

Huh

Boiling water??

Incidentally, I'm still dying to know why roslynmuse, in his own words (as I recall them), has 'never drunk a cup of tea and never will'!

Ollie. That sounds really nice actually! Although Ron's strawberries + black pepper sounds equally tempting. I'm not sure which to try first really ...

I sometimes put balsamic vinegar on chopped strawberries. It brings out the juices wonderfully.

strinasacchi, thank you. I usually have porridge with milk in the morning. Lately I make it  in microwave, but porrige cooked gently in milk is my favourite breakfast in the winter.
I have whipped cream (left overs) that I can put into porridge. I don't know why I did not think of it myself.
Strawberries with pepper or watermelon with soy sauce doesn't sound too attractive at the moment. May be it is boy's thing to like.

Unless they are served with cream I always put ground black pepper on strawberries, I thought it the usual thing to do?   I'll try the balsamic vinegar next Summer, no point in buying tasteless strawberries this time of the year, nothing like freshed picked British ones for that wonderful smell and flavour.  Some balsamic on smoked salmon is good.

I love porridge but never have the time to cook it during the week, but with drizzled golden syrup and cream - yum.

Ah, youth! Caffeine, tinners. Caffeine. That inflatable tyre the doc ties around your arm and then pumps up?  Sad
