A proposal for an alternative game - 'Name that piece' from different scorings of a single chord.
To give more change to participants, 'chord' can be taken to mean static harmony, so long as any moving parts are not thematic.
Taking the chord of C major as an example, clips could be:
- ASZ organ entry
- The end of Jupiter - bam!
- The end of The Jupiter
- The Creation ("Light!" is a bit of a giveaway though. Would we need rules for lyrics?)
- The start of the recapitulation in Brahms 4. The moving parts are not thematic (but the Ab could disqualify it though)
- The horn call in Brahms 1, so long as only one horn note was heard.
The game could proceed merrily arround the 24 keys (ignoring enharmonic differences
), and then possibly diverge into more adventurous harmony.
I'm sure a scoring system could be introduced if members thought this important. An adjudicator may be neccesary to indicate when to change chord.
