Ah, 179 was one of mine, wasn't it? It was Africa by Camille Saint-Saëns.

Ah, thanks for that IGI!

Ollie - you left up the title on 225! I could have guessed the composer, as well, dammit!

But, on the bright side, I've found the 3-disc album on Amazon going for little over a fiver from a marketplace seller!!  Cheesy

It's a great box! Quatuor Deffayet are fantastic and there's lots of Londeix and Mule as well.

Have you done it again with 225, Mr Sudden, or is the Karg-Elert left in the performer tagline a red herring?!

Oh I see people have already posted about 225, but a message on the test thread could still be useful for others.

I've mentioned this problem here before. In the first place don't save the clip with a descriptive name but it seems Member Sudden is using some software that automatically includes it. In which case, I find Real Player for Windows useful as it allows you to view and edit such information through one of its menus. (But I seem to remember OS uses a Mac and the Mac version - or at least my Mac version - doesn't have that facility.)

I did inadvertently leave information on my original puzzle 225. I then went to load up another one and iTunes suggested Karg-Elert for it so I kept it thinking that would certainly be good camouflage...

(Anyone wishing to guess the Sarabande for harmonium by Karg-Elert should certainly feel free of course... but it won't get them very far.)

Not Spohr's Violin Concerto No.12. Is this one going to prove like Puzzle 25 (Prelude to Act III of I Lombardi) which attracted a record number of doomed attempts?!

Would one of you violinists come and get this damned alla Polacca and put me out of my misery?!  Angry

It's several hours before I can post a clue in the official thread, but do bear in mind that Puzzles 222-224 were posted as a trio and, therefore, have a connection.  Wink

Mozart Gran Partita

Correct! (Blimey - you only had time to listen to the first chord as well!). You might have said Serenade no. 10 in Bb (movt. III).
That would have taken longer to type.  Grin

I was indeed quite sure on hearing the first note and absolutely positive on hearing the second! It's just one of those pieces...

Time to offer some thoughts on Mr 1780's trio, hoping to draw some clues from him:

212 for violin(or viola?) and piano. Is it English?
213 - something Debussian about this
214 - I thought it was Fauré, but Rachmaninov now seems more likely

Well, by the time I saw this, you have got the Debussy Jeux.

Rachmaninov does indeed sound more likely.....

And 212 is viola, but not English.

Thanks, Tommo. I should point out to others that I got my numbering wrong by 1, so the viola/piano piece is 211, the Debussy 212 and the solo piano 213.

Thanks IGI.  211 is somewhere between the nationalities you have already mentioned......

213 is Rachmaninov's Cinq Morceaux de fantasie: 1. Elégie in E flat minor.

I can't believe that took so long to identify...there was a phrase there which is reminiscent of one of the piano concertos and I also have what I suspect to be the recording Mr 1780 used in his snatch - Rachmaninov's own Ampico piano roll recording of 1928?
