Schibert

A  very private and reclusive composer, indentity unknown, thought to be the same musician who used the pseudonym Coyal.

Among other things, some of my very favouritest music for brass - try to hear the sinfonias on the Requiem disc. Shares the bill with Gabrieli and doesn't suffer from the comparison.

As it happens I had a copy of that disc in my hand yesterday while in a certain Kulturkaufhaus, but I put it back again feeling more in need of Hespos and JC Bach and labouring under stretched resources. Of course Scheidt's instrumental music is wonderful and varied. His Canzon sopra la bergamasca anglica is one of my favourite 17th century pieces and his pavans carry on where Dowland left off into abstract and expressive music frar from its danced origins. Jordi Savall has directed two fine CDs of his work, one with a highly colourful mixture of instruments and the other with just viols and harp; it's a shame that about half of the music is common to both but given that it's all so attractive I'm inclined not to worry too much.

Oliver Sudden, Scheidt and Giovanni Gabrieli are two of my favourite composers. Epsecially GG. I really like his sonate Pian' e Forte. always quite moving piece, to me. I could'nt log onto their listen thingey. Can you help. I heard the Scheidt, sounds very promising investment.

There's World War III going on in TOP with Reiner Torheit in full rant against Frenchfrank who, bless her, is plugging away there, refusing to be beaten.  It makes for interesting reading I have to say.

Which disc was it that you couldn't hear, bbm? The Requiem one or the complete Scheidt one on Ricercar? If the former, try googling around for another site which will let you listen to some bits. If the latter I suspect it's only at that site that you would get a proper listen...

The Requiem one is a bit tricky to find but it seems there's one at Dussmann in Berlin which Richard FOOLISHLY let slip through his fingers. It's probably my favourite Schütz disc and since for me he's very near the top of my list of favourite composers you can gather that it's very close to my heart indeed. For what it's worth the Fili mi, Absalon from that disc is top of my iPod playcount table by a substantial margin...  Roll Eyes

Well?  Cheesy

Shouldn't take you long to check out Fili mi, Absalon and Saul, Saul, Saul, Saul, Saul. Especially since the latter is about twice the speed I had hitherto known it.

And then try Mit dem Amphion zwar. My goodness that's a tune.
