Bother, missed the first Purcell, heard the second one. Music for a While is one of the many songs I nearly sang for auditions, and then didn't. James Gilchrist is a lovely singer to listen to, but when you see him he's very like Ian Wallace, if anyone remembers him, and I'm apt to get the giggles. He (Gilchrist) used to be a doctor.

I'm not keen on the Tippett. Winter Words coming up, one of my favourites, though not one of Britten's easiest.

Which Tippett is that, Mary?

I got back from the BBC recording studio yesterday, felt too tired to start on my tax return (I may end up doing this online instead, although given I was only self-employed for one month at the end of the last tax year it all seems more trouble than it should be anyway), watched a bit of a documentary about Akira Kurosawa, fell asleep on the sofa around 7.30, and didn't wake up properly again until around 11 this morning. (I did get up from the sofa and get into bed at some point!)

Guess I must have been tired. Roll Eyes

I love Britten's realisations of Purcell songs especially O Solitude (the 2nd one)

I've got the whole lot bbm, they're also on Hyperion, and are now on their cheap label Dyad

That's not Hyperion's cheap label, Andy.

Dyad = 2 Hyperions for the price of 1 = 2 discs for ca. £15.99
Helios = Hyperion cheap reissues = 1 disc for ca. £6.99

You can tell I used to work in a record shop, can't you? Wink

Question.

I've got a meeting tomorrow that I'll be turning up slightly late to (by prior arrangement) but this means I'll be walking in with coat and bags.  Now I need a new smart coat and because it's been so cold I've been using my ski jacket that really needs a wash but is never going to get properly clean because it's white. And it'll lose its waterpoofing if I wash it properly.

I'm also within pence of my overdraft, which I was trying to avoid going into this month.  We get paid on Friday.

Basically, should I take the plunge and buy a new coat, or turn up at the meeting looking a right scruff-bag?  I think a bit of me wants the excuse to get a new coat, and I think they've got some half decent ones in Matalan (credit crunch shopping venue).

 Huh
