I've certainly frequented a very fine sheet music shop not far away in Kantstraße. (Watch how you pronounce that if there are Anglophones present.) Cantus 139 it's called. For retrospectively obvious reasons.

and fetched up in the Savignyplatz on Wednesday evening.

Too much information perfectwagnerite!!

Oh, all right, for the avoidance of doubt ....

Spent a civilised and decorous half-hour taking the air and visiting the bookshops in the Savignyplatz before returning to my hotel

Idiom is such a strange thing ....

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

Meanwhile, am I the only one who finds this warning either silly or tiresome depending on my mood?

(Of course it tips over into tiresome or beyond on the many occasions when it's not actually true.)

Quite so, Martle. The hilarious mistake on the sign of course is that it should say "gates" instead of "railings".
