Ho

Sir Roger the Rover tore his hair,
He cursed himself in his despair,
The programmes crash on every side
His plan is sinking ‘neath the tide;
Presenters weep and gnash their teeth
And all around – sheer disbelief.

Now here's an interesting thing.

The Controller's 'extra' newsletter for this month which has just appeared refers to the changes in the R3 message boards (changes made by 'my colleagues' says Mr Wright: so don't blame him, presumably). He actually makes a point of saying 'Do look out there for details of other external message board sites for discussing Radio 3'.

So, a bit of free advertising for FoR3 and this site Smiley  Or an invitation to bog off possibly Sad  Or a bit of both  Undecided

George - I got one of them notes too. We shall have to see (and listen) how the changes to station and board pan out. I, Magog (with excitement)...

A bit of both I think. The same sort of message was given to Radio 2 posters, though via a direct link (in a Host-thread) to R2ok forum.

What happened at the BBC R2 messageboard differs from R3. Whereas the new R3 MB seems to want us to talk about a few shows that few might listen to, and not talk about music in general, the R2 messageboard is now just two general music topics and, initially anyway, threads about specific shows and presenters were severely modded. I think the modding is less severe now but the place is barren compared to last year.

I found the Controller's additional Monthly Newsletter worrying with his reference to "external sites where you can post on R3" which does imply a certain 'bog off' attitude.

What I also find concerning is the 4 programmes chosen on Classical and the 'tying in' of topics to just these 4 programmes.  Given the high feelings and the current level of moderation it did cross my mind that, like the Today programme, only the Hosts in future would choose the topics.  I do hope I am wrong.

I hope so too Anna. But there's precious little evidence to suggest otherwise. I find it really extraordinary that FF's legitimate and surely 'MB-legal' attempts to discuss the consultation process have been so heavy-handedly censored over at The Other Place. It's a bit bleak, I reckon.

Hi martle, I got a friend of mine, who is a Newbie over there and still in pre-mod to post a question to the Hosts about what sort of topics are allowed i.e., if a composer has been mention in one of the 4 programmes then it's Ok to post about them and whether Hosts will be setting the topics.

So far his posting has not appeared - not even in 'Message Hidden' form  Sad  Prior to that his were getting through in about 30 mins.  If it hasn't appeared by 8.00pm I'll ask him to send it again.  It isn't even showing on his 'Personal Space' page.

In fact, I will ask the question.  That pre-mod situation is ridiculous.

There always was going to be a CD Review message board, it was mentioned in the original Southendian posts as one of the four programmes with Music Matters, Breakfast and Iain Burnside.

As ever, the main thing governing how useful these boards will be will depend on how they are moderated re."off topic" posts.

BobbyZ

You are right

wilf made me even more confused that I was before Embarrassed

I suppose we can be on-topic on CD Review MB if we discuss ANY CD that was ever reviewed on the show, or discuss any CD that we wish to compare with any CD that was reviewed on the show. So it's a free-for-all  Grin

May I just put a question in here about R4 'Today'? Does anyone know how to register on the JamesSt George 'Today'-type MB? If so, could you please send me a PM ... and I will (with my neighbour's help if necessary) work out how to find it! Thank you.
