Lord B
All this zapping of thread titles going on over there... just wondering, you know... hmm?  Wink
It seems totally insane and gung ho. I did once complain about a posting which was an attack on someone else, and my complaint was turned down and the posting remained. Now they seem to zap everything - all they are waiting for is someone to hit the complain button. I don't think they have a clue. I wonder what Feedback will have to say about it all today?

Rob Cowan said that may be they will change MB back. He posted it on his Breakfast site.

A thought - I wonder if the powers-that-be at the old messageboards realised that, if they limit discussion to specific Radio 3 programmes and presenters, their boards are going to be much more filled with people complaining about the station, the messageboards, and everything else? As opposed to the more aimiable (mostly) and wide-ranging discussions that went on before. Certainly has happened.....

No. To them the messageboards are the equivalent of a customer complaints dept. A good bit of PR but otherwise totally ignored.

Interesting article in Classical Music Magazine, with lots from french frank in it.  But the main bit of interest is that an unnamed BBC source told CM, "There is a major meltdown going on at Radio 3 over the messageboards, including the transfer of responsibility to the programme teams, a decision taken without prior consultation."

Unnamed BBC source...?  Hmmm wonders who that may be.  But that intrigue aside, another sign of a cock-up.  And possibly an indication that there is a meltdown, so some people care......

It's all highly irregular!

I was listening (again) to the EM show and clicked on the link to "Join [the] messageboard discussion". Before you could click your mouse three times and type "There's No Place Like Home" I found myself looking at a list of "Deleted" threads.

Hmmm,

wilf (U2092589) seems bent on a smear campaign against our new R3boards/R3ok messageboard. I'm putting him straight  Angry

I dunno, John - it's quite touching that Wilf has that determined sense of trust that all will be put back to normal - rather like the end of a medieval morality play in which everything works out happily.   In the face of the utter fiasco that has happened there, this is trust indeed Smiley

I no longer post there - what on earth would be the point?

Has anybody else noticed that the first headline on the R3 Homepage is "Radio 3's Abolition Season"?

Are they really just referring to slavery?................

It does look a bit ambiguous, Ron Wink

Does it really matter if we discuss music (including Radio 3 programmes of it) "over there" or "over here"? We need only one set of message-boards on which to do this, and if the official BBC ones have proved inadequate, this new set of MBs is fine. Personally I feel it is insulting to be dictated to by BBC personnel as to what we may or may not discuss, and if they persist in this arrogance then they can run a virtually empty board, while all the real discussion happens "over here".

I think some people are persevering with it because they think it gives them direct access to the BBC, but those in charge have never taken much notice anyway and the idea that presenters would interract regularly with posters since the "make-over" seems to have cooled off.

I think that the discussions here are more informed and friendly, with plenty of room for humour and shared thoughts and experiences. The pictures and the thread on the pub night out in London have been great and would never have been allowed on TOP, even before the recent reforms. On the other hand, I should like to see more discussion of what has been played on Radio 3 and more composers pre-Wagner being talked about. Beethoven, anyone? I suppose the answer is to start it myself but I've been rather preoccupied with work during the last week or so but that will ease up as Easter approaches.

Sorry that I`m only repeating what other have said before. I have not abandoned the old boards and do check in daily, I`ve even posted, but the atmosphere of negativity, plus the backbiting and sniping is so unpleasant that I leave. Even the quality of discussion is muted. Hardly surprising given the way that the Board is being policed.  There also seems to be a lot of antagonism and misunderstandings about this MB. It would appear that if RW had deliberately wanted to break up a community and cause confrontation, he couldn`t have done a better job. The r3ok lot seem to be the black hats and deserters. It`s all rather sad. Rather as though a vital spark has gone out of the place.
