I believe there will be something positive on the other side too, but radio 3 will change because times are changing.
I don't have time to read both boards sometimes. I spend a lot of time as it is reading. Don't feel sad Morticiaa, classical music and radio 3 will survive and the board their will evolve and soften. All regimes soften with time. We might all still be going there. It is like meeting in different caffee's or pubs. (I don't know how long it will take).

Has anyone had a look at the `Roger Wright - Goodbye` thread on Music Matters over the road? My spirits sank even further. Oh, and I see R3 is now getting a Request Show on Sundays. Very soon even tumbleweed won`t survive over there. Although having said that there are some wonderfully `off-message` postings on the thread that would have been instantly zapped a few weeks ago. Just had a look. I noticed this link http://www.artsjournal.com/slippeddisc/ to a statement by the good, admirable, estimable etc. Mr Lebrecht where he welcomes the appointment of RW to the Proms. Having sat on the fence since the news came out last week, I find that Normal's approval has propelled me decisively towards the Noes.

Richard,
I read the link. Now, not only do I have a sinking heart, but raised blood pressure as well.

Ho MorticiaaaAAA. I'm not surprised re the blood pressure. The attitude that brother (?) Lebrecht wafts in my direction is that of a "crawler" of the sort that one seems to encounter on the back benches. How can Wright be thought to be a supporter of live music when he's cut the R3 "live" to about 2 hours or so? I visit the "old place" and scan what is going on. Not much! When I think of the number of messages posted and keen, lively discussions there used to be on the "old boards" last year, I cannot really believe the unreasoning mentality in the BBC that has brought the present boards to the verge of collapse. How many are currently posting there regularly? Twenty to thirty? Frankly, the place is pretty boring and one or two "unpleasants" have surfaced. Aaaarrggghh! Cheers and best wishes, Your friendly S'wave.

I tend to only look at the jazz bored over there these days, since those posters have been able to more or less carry on as before and don't often post here. Thought this post from the King was worth sharing for the quote he uses from host Chris, I think from Radio 2. Hopefully Kenny won't mind it being reposted here.

We appreciate that not every editorial decision the BBC makes will be to the liking of all our audience and people will want to express their views, but we don’t believe that message boards are the most effective way of giving general feedback about programmes and stations. There are a few reasons for this.
The first is that the message boards are not a formal BBC 'feedback route'. Because they are an open forum, people sometimes think that they are a good way to feedback to us, but decision-makers and executives don’t routinely read BBC message boards. They do read the complaints and comments that are delivered by the formal BBC feedback routes, and you'll always get a response by using them.
The BBC staff that read the message boards most frequently are the hosts. Usually they are staff who have other responsibilities (ranging from making programmes, building websites, or managing other community areas) and are not best placed to respond on behalf of programme teams or station management.
Again, the proper contact and feedback routes will usually get to the decision-maker directly and more quickly.
Finally, it is worth pointing out that it is usually the people that aren't happy that shout the loudest; it's always like this with feedback (when was the last time you were impassioned to the point of writing a strongly worded letter of praise?). If we allow message boards to be used for feedback about programmes, it tends to create a very negative vibe on the board, with a disproportionate amount of complaints and negative comments. We want our boards to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible, to engage as many people as possible, and many people are put off using message boards if the tone is relentlessly negative or they are full of repetitive complaints or conjecture.
I hope this helps clarify the situation.
Chris Quoted from this message
Just thought I'd paste that in, I mean, jeez, there's nothin' else to do, I mean I could be on ebay or summat, innit tryin' to flog some old cassttes or hubcaps, but KING KENNYTONE IS DEDICATED TO ALL THAT WE CALL JAZZ, and must therefore pu in many gruelling and boring hours trawling the BBC£3 & = ! $ £11.50 etc, boreds.
enuf already. Interestingly ( this is BobbyZ again ), host Chris states more or less that message boards aren't to be used for feedback about programmes. But for Radio 3, the only categories set up are all about feedback to particular programmes ? Oh well.

I nearly fell off my chair! I've posted a thank you, but it shows that they've realised that there is a market for general communication with the listeners. Ah well, they wouldn't listen to us but they've obviously got there in the end.
